Shipping Operative
Working Hours: Monday to Friday 08.30 to 17.30, 1 hour break per day
Our client who is a freight forwarding company looking to recruit a shipping operative who will arrange shipment of goods to or from EU countries via road and rail.
Responsibilities:
The role is to organise delivery of freight through management of hauliers once shipments have arrived in the UK. The successful candidate will develop good relationships with our customers and keep in contact with them regarding the progress of their shipments, arrival of cargo into the UK and delivery dates. It is vital to check with our customers that delivery proceeded as expected once it has been made. It will be important to work as a team with account handlers, maintaining constant contact to keep them advised of any changes or issues with their clients’ deliveries. The candidate will need to be a confident communicator, both by phone and via email, and a strong administrator who can send status reports, chase hauliers for paperwork and send on to clients in a timely manner before scanning and closing down the electronic job file once the job is complete.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have experience in import operations and come from a freight forwarding background however this is not essential as long you have excellent administration and Office based customer service experience.

Good level of skill and experience in Microsoft applications including Outlook ,Word and Excel

Experience in the maintenance and management of client accounts, rate & contract databases and files

Analytical and accurate
*
Excellent communication and negotiation skills

A good team player who will be willing to assist the operational team when required

Quick learner who will easily adapt to the in-house system
*
The ability to manage your own workload efficiently and proactively
*
Proficient at wording emails to clients in a professional manner and ensuring that all client requests are fulfilled and answered in a timely manner

Report writing and ability to provide concise progress updates
*
Confidence in building and maintaining relationships with customers
