Shipping Manager

An International manufacturer and distributor of commercial furniture to the hospitality and corporate markets, with factories located across Europe and Asia, are seeking an experienced Shipping Manager to be based at their Head Office in North London.
Main Purpose of the Role:
The Shipping Manager will oversee and manage the company’s global shipping operations, from start to finish.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Generating export documentation by sea, air, road and courier and processing documentation for import customs clearance purposes.
* Letter of Credit presentations.
* Negotiating freight rates and preparing detailed freight quotes on a global basis, for sea, air, and road.
* Checking and authorising carrier and other 3rd party invoices for payment.
* Managing carrier and factory performance.
* Transport insurance claims management experience, including conducting annual review of Company Marine Insurance policy.
To Be Considered:
* Global shipping / logistics experience, encompassing sea, air, road, and courier, especially cross-trade and, ideally, covering shipments from Europe and the Far East to North America.
* Clear understanding of the complexities involved in exporting and importing goods globally.
* Clear understanding of US import regulation including TSCA and LACY Act.
* Understanding shipping terminology.
* Experience of domestic US shipping.
* Experience working with offshore manufacturing facilities, especially in European and Far East locations, furniture industry experience a plus.
* Detailed understanding of the US customs clearance process and customs clearance processes in general, including processing relief.
* Brexit experience a plus
* Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and the ability to manipulate large amounts of data and generate reports in Excel.
* Very strong numeracy and analytical skills, especially for the preparation of shipment schedules and loading plans.
* Critical Path management skills.
* Stock Management skills.
* Staff management experience (team of 2)
* Order processing experience.
* Ability to manage a heavy workload under pressure and prioritise conflicting requirements.
* Proactive approach to problem-solving with high attention to detail.
