Project Engineer (Submarine Systems)

Our World leading client has an immediate requirement for a dynamic and ambitious Project Engineer, working with complex Submarine systems in Barrow in Furness.

Key Responsibilities:

The Project Engineer is a member of the Project Leadership Team, complementing the Project Manager and Technical Manager. This Role is internally focussed, combining engineering judgement and leadership with the ability to co-ordinate, plan, control and deliver a project.

• Daily tasking and co-ordination of the engineering team, ensuring the team is progressing
as required against the plan and issues are identified and if required resolved through
collaboration with the project leadership team (including the Project Manager and
Technical Manager).
• Engineering Management and problem solving – ensuring that the team is following the
agreed project delivery lifecycle and any problems are identified, understood and
resolved.
• Primarily responsible for developing an achievable schedule, which is agreed with all
parties and approved for the team to work against. The schedule should include
timescales (tasks with completion dates) and costs (labour and materials) whilst
considering scope (all deliverables) constraints, negotiating if these do not align.
• Establish and maintain the overall project plan/schedule (Gantt) using MS Project and
project deliverables list using MS Excel, Sharepoint or other appropriate tools
• Ensuring Time recording is accurate against activities on the project
• Provides reporting to the Project Manager (including ETC, EAC and forecast
completion / delivery dates)
• Extracts resource requirements from the plan and provides demand through the project
managers to facilitate resourcing allocation meetings
• Documents and controls the baseline for the project
• Controls Risk associated with the project through: Identification Documentation Impact
Analysis Planning and Execution of Mitigations
• Facilitates Change through
o providing estimated effort and schedule impact
o incorporating approved change into project schedule and technical baseline
• Conducting Lessons Learned evaluations to continually improve approaches and seek
efficiencies

Knowledge, Skills And Experience:

The candidate will be expected to have the following knowledge skills and experience

Experience of Project Management and/or System Engineering Background
Understanding and experience of Engineering lifecycles, specifically V-Model Lifecycle
Experience and knowledge of Systems Engineering disciplines such as Verification and
Validation methods, the importance of contractual compliance and system or systems
integration.
Proven Leadership Skills
People co-ordination, excellent communication skills (written and verbal), motivation and
asking
Proficient with Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office Applications and Microsoft SharePoint
Knowledge of Submarines, Maritime, Defence would be advantageous

Complexity And Creativity – Problem Solving:

Assesses Engineering project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality and customer goals
Actively manage improvements using the Continuous Improvement (E3) Methodology, encouraging and facilitating change to realise efficiencies
Proactively resolves issues whether they are tasking, resource costs or technical

Judgements And Decisions – Advice:

Decisions within the agreed scope/budget and in accordance with approved process and procedure are within this role’s responsibility.
Decisions effecting scope are to be co-ordinated with the Technical Manager
Decisions effecting process are to be co-ordinated with the Technical Manager, Design Authority and appropriate process owner
Decisions effecting Budget / Schedule are to be co-ordinated with the Project Manager

Successful candidates will have a good Degree, in addition to recent experience from within a Defence, Maritime or Submarine environment. Due to the sensitive nature of the work, applications will only be accepted from UK Nationals able to pass the relevant security checks.
