About The Role
Babcock is rapidly establishing itself as an international Naval ship designer and builder. We've built on the success of the UK MoD Type 31 Frigate, and are pursuing opportunities for frigate export variants (AH140) with overseas customers. As well as supporting frigate exports, the engineering team is actively working on other complex shipbuilding programs around the world, from small fast attack craft all the way up to aircraft carriers, alongside our established in service support contracts for UK and overseas customers.
We are looking to significantly expand our engineering and ship design teams in order to exploit all of these opportunities and so if you are interested in taking your career in an exciting new direction then consider Babcock for your next move.
You will join a national team of over 700 Engineers and Designers within the Marine Sector of Babcock.
We are a leading design consultancy providing naval architecture, marine systems engineering, electrical engineering, design modelling and project support services to the marine and defence markets. We have base offices in Bristol, Rosyth and Plymouth, and offer flexible working with office attendance and travel to meet project requirements.
The role is within our complex shipbuilding programme, developing designs through concept and early stage design as well as supporting the bidding process.
As a Principal Marine/Mechanical Engineer, you are responsible for authoring, reviewing and substantiating Marine and Mechanical designs through calculations, simulations, commissioning and diagnostic test support. Your primary deliverables are substantiation reports/designs for installation solutions; this can include development/analysis and/or verification/validation of Power and Propulsion designs, development of Auxiliary Ship Systems and/or HVAC for existing and new build/concept designs. You will be responsible for preparation and production of substantiation reports for solutions during the entire design lifecycle phases (Concept, Basic, Functional, Detail, Manufacturing, Installation and Decommissioning), in line with recognised standards and to the required time, cost and quality requirements.
You will lead design teams and other stakeholders throughout the design lifecycle to ensure coordination and functionality of design, including supporting design reviews, and act as Technical Authorities within their area of expertise.
