Operations Team Leader - Ocean Freight

Our client is a supply chain logistics company, and they are currently looking for an Operations Team Leader for their Ocean Freight department in Rainham, Essex. The successful Ocean Freight Operations Team Leader will provide clear operational direction to the ocean freight forwarding team and accounting, ensure customers have an excellent experience through consistent achievement of service level targets, develop existing client relationships, support delivery of new business opportunities that enhance gross margin and enable branch to achieve profit targets.

Responsibilities of the Ocean Freight Operations Team Leader:

Plan business activity and delegate workloads across the operations teams
Ensure Standard Operating Procedures and Service Level Agreements are in place
Review and develop existing process standards and KPI’s to improve operational efficiency
Act as escalation point for the customer and network
Conduct Company disciplinary and grievance procedure as appropriate
Provide timely and accurate reports to Management as required
Ensure all relevant customer and supplier rate cards are filed with validity periods monitored and controlled
Ensure the team manage to accrue all costs and revenues across the operational and finance systems
Ensure on time resolution of all supplier costs queries and the avoidance of any sanctions or stoppages being placed on the company
Ensure all sales invoices are generated weekly and passed to the customer with 100% accuracy
Support the delivery and implementation of all projects and initiatives in relation to improved procedures and systemic controls pertaining to all matters of cost and revenue management
Ensure all department admin and accounting functions are completed within agreed timescales and deadlines
Ensure successful implementation of all new network and BDM business
Engage and motivate the Freight Forwarding team
Provide weekly briefings to the operations team to ensure awareness of operational performance and future planning
Provide operational cover for the team in their absence
Promote a positive and supportive working environment equally for all members of the team
Ensure all company procedures, including absence, performance, holiday, etc. are managed and adhered to
Review the training and development needs of employees, providing mentoring and support is provided
Ensure all company briefings and communications are carried out in a timely manner
Continuously look to improve processes and procedures
Key requirements of the Ocean Freight Operations Team Leader:

Experience in Ocean Freight Forwarding – Import and/or Export
Experience in leading and managing a team in a busy environment
Excellent Customer Services skills
Proactive and flexible approach
Excellent stakeholder management skills
Ability to prioritise and work under pressure
Attention to detail
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Basic IT; Microsoft Office, In-house systems
