Mechanical Project Technician - Process Piping

Job purpose:

The role of the Mechanical project technician is to provide expertise to all mechanical scope of Projects with a special focus on process pipings scope. From design through to commissioning. Including the design,procurement, installation supervision, final inspection and validation of new installations and equipment. Will also be responsible for providing training to all personnel on project scope and creating all documentation to operate and maintain new equipment.

Job scope:

To attend and give input to design reviews for projects
To carry out the design or provide high level input to design teams of mechanical installations such as pipework, tanks, process or packing equipment.
Produce, update and issue pipework or equipment layout drawings for the costing and installation of Mechanical scope of project.
Produce and distribute enquiry documents to vendors for costing of scope
Bid analysis to select cost effective and best value vendor tender
Raise purchase requisition for equipment and to procure vendors for installation work
Liaise with Depts. to plan downtime for installations
Review Risk Assessments and Method statements for installation works
Issue permit to work for installation contractors
Supervise vendors, carry out safety observation and hazard tours while works taking place
Carry out installation quality checks of equipment ensuring installations meet required standards
Be able to produce the site standard IQOQ sheets required for installation standards for projects.
Be a part of a team to ensure start-up of a new process or packing equipment
Carry out operational checks and snagging of equipment
Contribute to Dept. training plans and matrix for new equipment
Ensure all documentation is collated and submitted to Dept. All drawings are issued "As built" and added to central filing system
Flexible with travel arrangements for carrying FATs at vendor locations worldwide
Communicate planned works using Dept. tracking tools
Support project execution phase, resolving issues and liaising with external resources as needed.
Management of a CDM area for projects including construction safety management, CDM registration with local authorities.

Required qualifications:

Previous experience and qualifications as a Project Mechanical engineer

National Certificate in Engineering

NVQ level 3 in maintenance engineering

Ordinary National Certificate (ONC) or Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Mechanical Engineering

Full modern apprenticeship in mechanical engineering

ATEX qualification or experience in working in an ATEX environment

Construction design and drawing regulation qualification

Understanding of European & UK welding standards required for fabrication & construction. (ASME & NBIC)

Skills required:

Ability to read, interpret and mechanical equipment specs, pipework drawings & layout drawings

Competent ability to produce technical (mech) drawings in Auto cad, including GA's, isometrics, P&ID's and 3 D modelling for design and installation purposes for install construction.

Read/understand/edit process drawings, pipework & equipment layouts

Strong problem-solving mastery, be able to troubleshoot issues and define countermeasures

Competent on Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access)

07:00 to 15:00

Monday to Friday

An hourly rate calculate from annual pay range between £60 to 75k per annum, dependant on experience and qualifications
