Business Development Manager - Freight/ cargo

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading freight forwarding business based in Solihull.

The primary role of the Business Development Manager is to prospect for new clients by networking, cold calling, advertising or other means of generating interest from potential clients. They must develop a rapport with new clients, meet sales targets and provide support that will continually improve the relationship. They will be required to grow and retain existing accounts by presenting new solutions and services to customers. This position will require the Business Development Manager to work with mid and senior level management. Strategic planning is a key part of this job description since it is the manager's responsibility to develop pipelines of new business coming into the company. This position requires a thorough knowledge of the market, the solutions and services the company and its competitors provide.

Key Responsibilities:

* Identify and qualify potential new customers and turn this into increased business for the company. Develop and maintain relationships to achieve or exceed revenue goals.

* Cold call as appropriate within business scope to ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities.

* Generate and manage short term and long term leads from internal and external referral sources to qualify prospects and advance them through the sales process.

* Set up meetings between client decision makers.

* Plan approaches and pitches. Work with the team to develop proposals that speak to the client's needs, concerns and objectives.

* Manage marketing Intel using applicable sales management systems and tools to maximize efficiency and analyse data/marketing activity on a weekly basis.

* Effectively present and discuss the services of the company to prospective clients in a way that conveys an image of quality, integrity and superior understanding and delivery of customer needs.

* Be familiar with the local & international marketplace and trends and develop strategic sales plan that identifies prospects and customers.

Experience:

* 3+ years’ experience in the Cargo/Freight Forwarding Industry.

* 3+ years’ experience in outside sales.

General Skills:

* A proven sales hunter and closer.

* Track record of sales excellence.

* Articulate and persuasive oral and written communication skills.

* Must be able to work independently in fast pace, rapid change environment.

* Software sales (CRM) experience preferred.

* Excellent negotiator with ability to persuade, motivate and influence.

* Assist with the monitoring and reporting of the departmental KPIs (including generating data to be used in reports).

* Follow up queries on behalf of the team and chase feedback on tender submissions.

* Undertake other such reasonable duties as required by the Head of Sales & CRM
